Party season is upon us, so we can expect to be dancing until
dawn in heels, a lot. And, while we have managed to find some that are both sexy and comfortable, these are a
rarity.
It was exactly this idea that prompted Nanna Liv to launch
footwear brand Sargossa, which uses technology and research to
create seriously desirable heels that won’t pinch your feet in
several different places. They are designed to look good and feel
comfortable, completely dispelling the age old (but mad) saying, no
pain, no gain.
Liv worked with leading scientists and consultants to create a
high quality, sexy leather heels that wouldn’t hurt, studying the
anatomy of feet and the measurements of such a shoe. It sounds
technical, but essentially it all comes to is the redistributing
the weight of the foot in an even way.
“With traditional heels that are 10cm high, 86% – 90% of the
weight is pushed to the ball of the foot,” said Liv. “I developed a
last for Sargossa shoes which redistributes the weight so that the
figure is more 37-57% so they are much more comfortable to wear. My
aim is to make shoes, with a heel height of between 7-10.5 cm, that
you can wear regardless of the demands of your schedule.”
Her advice for buying heels that are comfy as well as sexy? Well
aside from investing in Sargossa, look for styles that distribute
the weight of your foot evenly, consider padded insoles, space for
toes (shoes should be wide enough so that your ties lye comfortably
next to each other) and avoid those made in synthetic materials.
They might cost less than leather, but they stop your feet from
breathing and no one wants rancid-smelling, contorted feet at the
end of an evening.
“I’m proud to call myself a feminist; women should not be
compromised by their shoes, they should be empowered by them,”
said Liv.
We’ll drink (and dance in a way that only comfy heels allow) to
