AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police arrested a 21-year-old suspect for the theft of $21,000 in collector’s basketball shoes from an Austin residence, according to the arrest affidavit.

Guillermo Ivan Prieto is charged with the burglary of a habitation, which is a second degree felony.

Officers responded to a burglary report on Nov. 2, around 6:23 p.m. Once officers arrived they met the two burglary victims who lived at the residence.

One victim told officers in the affidavit that the burglar most likely entered the house through a window in the back of the residence. In the affidavit he said the window was unlocked when he left his home and then locked with the curtain moved when he returned.

According to the affidavit, the items missing from the resident’s room were eight pairs of basketball shoes. As soon as the resident noticed the missing shoes he called his roommates who asked him to check if his money was still in his room. The resident informed the roommate that the $600 he had in cash was not there. All of the electronics were left untouched in the house.

The victim described the collectible stolen shoes in the affidavit as:

  • Nike Air Jordan 2 High DB “Charity” worth $1,200
  • Nike Air Jordan 9 Retro DB “Doernbecher” $1,800
  • Nike Air Yeezy 2SP “Red October” $5,750
  • 2 pair of Nike Air Yeezy 2NRG $4,000 each
  • Nike Air Jordan 3 Retro Dr. Doernbecher $1,250
  • Nike Air Foamposit One NRG Galazy $1,750
  • Nike Air Jordan 5 Retro “Supreme” $650

It was later discovered that additionally two bottles of Versace cologne were stolen as well as two shirts. The victim stated in the affidavit that he believes the suspect was someone who knew he owned the shoes.

The roommate notified the victim that he saw a pair of his shoes for sale on FaceBook that matched one of the pairs stolen, according to the affidavit. They set up a deal to buy the shoes the next day, Nov. 5. The victim met then with Prieto at a Chevron to identify the shoes. The affidavit states that once he confirmed the shoes belonged to him, he called police.

When the officers took Prieto into custody the victim explained that he knew the shoes were his due to the imperfection he had marked out with a Sharpee. There were two pairs of the victim’s shoes in Prieto’s possession at the time.

Once in custody Prieto confessed that he and two others burglarized the residence, according to the affidavit. Prieto told officers in the affidavit that the victim’s step-brother was one of the accomplices.

Prieto is currently being held in Travis County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
